Robyn Erbesfield-Raboutou: Climber, Mother, Coach

Self-Esteem -

Mother Rock Climber
Aimee Roseborrough is a dedicate mother and climber

Robyn Erbesfield-Raboutou inspires me as an incredible rock climber and dedicated mother.  She has been climbing for 31 years and only recently climbed her hardest route, a 5.14b, at 49 years old.  Since I am almost 38 years old, this feat inspires me to believe my best climbing days might still be ahead of me.  She also has two children (like me) and has managed to make climbing a part of her family life as well.  Recently, her daughter Brooke, 11, also redpointed the same 5.14b.  I can only imagine how special it would be to work on a route with your daughter and then both send it.  Robyn also coaches her daughter for climbing.  I am inspired by how close their relationship must be in order for Robyn to be her coach and climbing partner.  I hope someday I will be able to share my love and passion for climbing with my girls as well.  Even if we are not climbing at such a high level, it would be wonderful to project a route together and share in the excitement of the send.  The Raboutou family also travels internationally for climbing.  This inspires me since next month we’re going to Spain with our 1-year-old and 6-year-old.  Sometimes dragging my kids across the world for me to climb seems selfish, so knowing that it turned out well for other families makes me feel better.

You’ll be amazed by her young daughter’s climbing skills in this YouTube video.
